About Us

Dunsford Funeral Home started in Augusta, Kansas, in 1916 by Joseph and Nettie Dunsford on Santa Fe Street. They purchased the current property at 201 East Fifth from a doctor in 1920, where the funeral home is now located, adding a chapel in 1955. Of the Dunsfords' five children, Dick was the only one to follow in the family tradition, becoming owner and director of Dunsford Funeral Home. After retiring in 1991, Dick remained on staff consulting the new corporate owners until his passing in 1994.

In 2006, the funeral home once again became family-owned and operated, providing a commitment of dignified services to Augusta families. The current owners, Steve and Dawn Shelley, have a dedication to delivering caring, compassionate, and quality services. Purchasing Dunsford~Zeiner Funeral Home in 2011 has allowed the Shelleys to grow and expand, now meeting the needs of families in the local Augusta community. They believe in the value of a family-owned and operated funeral home, providing quality and personal service to each family.
