William "Robert" Lee Cox, 65, passed away at home in Augusta, Kansas on March 06, 2024.

Robert was born on Tuesday, June 10, 1958 in Winfield, Kansas to Rev. Henry W. Cox and Angenetta "Lois" (Olsen) Cox.

Robert went to grade schools in Turner, Kansas; CasaGrande; Arizona; and Chino Valley, Arizona. Graduated Ark City high school in 1976. He attended Cowley County College for one year. Then attended South Western in Winfield and Ark City, Kansas. Robert graduated college in 1982. He attended South Western Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas and graduated in 1987. Robert received his master's degree in arts of religious education. Robert served in ministry for a number of years in various churches.

Robert is survived by his sister, Annetta L. Cox of Gurnee, IL; brothers, John Henry Cox (Cynthia) of New York and David Cox (Carol) of Ash Fork, AZ; niece, Kaitlyn Cox of Ash Fork, AZ; nephew, Kevin (Samantha) Cox; grand-nieces and nephews, Emmalee, Madilyn, Wyatt, and Benjamin; family, church family, and many good friends.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents, Henry W. Cox and Lois Cox; eldest brother, Elward "LeRoy" Cox; and nephew, Brian David Cox.

Robert rarely went anywhere without a sketchbook, different sizes, smaller ones for church, but he usually had one. Watching him work was always fun. He might start with an eye, an ear, or a nose, then create the rest of the face and personality around it, always capturing the spirit in the eyes and expression. He created characters with a pencil and told stories with facial expressions. He was all about Art…that and praising God. Some of his artwork has been enjoyed for years on bulletin covers at the First Baptist Church of Douglass, Kansas and over 500 will be in book form and placed in the church library. Some of his artwork can be seen hanging in a local dental office (two very large family portraits). He is known as an artist, illustrator of books, and his good sense of humor. He liked to preach and serve in ministry, take walks around the farm and the woods and having quiet time at the creek. Robert loved to travel and drive the car. He traveled to Illinois, Branson, MO; Raleigh, NC, and New York, via car and/or train trips to visit family and friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 15th from 5-7:30 p.m. at Dunsford Funeral Home of Augusta.

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 16th at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Douglass, Kansas.

The family wishes Memorial Contributions be made out to the First Baptist Church of Douglass or Phoenix Hospice, left in care of the Dunsford Funeral Home.
