Wanda Jean Moore passed away September 26, 2025, at home in Augusta, Kansas.

She was born February 18, 1929, in Tryon, Oklahoma, to Alvin and Alma (Kelly) Fent. She married John Henry Moore on January 23, 1948. They were married for 72 and a half years when he died in June of 2020.

Most of Wanda's life was spent as a full-time homemaker, but before her marriage she worked as an operator for the phone company, connecting the wires for each light that lit up on the board in front of her, signaling that a call was trying to go through. She was "on the board" the day that World War II ended and told us that every board was covered with lights, and each one was a call trying to go through. When her supervisor took over to give her a break, she could hear all the people yelling and whistling in the street below.

One of the places that John and Wanda were sent by his company was Benson, Arizona, where there was no congregation of the Church of Christ, so they worked to establish a group there, and after some years, were leaders in building a meeting place that is still being used today. Wanda started in Benson to teach Bible class for the small children and continued in all the towns across the Southwest where they lived over the next 54 years.

Even though Wanda was shy by nature, she trained herself to reach out to others in the assemblies of the church. She was always welcoming visitors and her smile seemed to put others at ease. The services of the church were very important to Wanda, as were the works of visiting and taking food to the sick or lonely, and practicing hospitality in her own home.

Though the work of the church was important, it did not take away from Wanda's faithful ministering to her own family. All of her sons and all of their wives have been blessed by her timely help and mothering over the years. She will be greatly missed by all of us.

Wanda was preceded in death by her husband John, her 2-year-old daughter Shirley; her parents and stepparents; sisters, Geraldine and Norma; brothers Leslie and Richard Fent and Lynn Foster.

She is survived by her sister Kathy Boswell and her brother Charlie Foster; sons John Michael (Maxine), Donald Lee(Sheryl), and James Patrick(Theresa); grandchildren Mica Hunter, Seth Moore, Mary Brookman, Lindsay Nichols, Mindy Walker, John Moore, Taylor Moore, and Margo Engelmann; 15 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandbaby.

Visitation will be held on Monday, October 6th at 10 a.m. at Church of Christ in Augusta. Funeral Service to begin immediately after at 11 a.m.

The family wishes Memorial Contributions be made out to Orphan's Lifeline International, left in care of the Dunsford Funeral Home.
