Obituary

Theresia (Susie) Scheideman Rhodes 96, passed away at her home on Thursday November 7, 2024.

Susie was born on May 25, 1928 in Fechsen, Germany to Joseph and Maria (Fischer) Schoen. She met and married Charles William (Bill) Rhodes in 1947 during WWII. He passed away in 1973 after 26 happy years together in America eventually to settle in Douglass, Kansas. They had four children, Dusty (Shirley) Rhodes of Douglass KS, Roy (Deborah) Rhodes of Douglass KS, Terry (Sandy) Rhodes of Mulvane, KS, and Susan (Paul) Olmstead of Menefee CA.

They were blessed with eleven grandchildren: Kristy, Matthew, Jesse, Mike, Robert, Holly, Dustin, Bret, Heidi, Hope, and Jennifer. Blessings continued with numerous great grandchildren and a special niece, Rosemary Diodato of Boynton Beach, Florida.

After eleven years, Susie married for the second time to Donald G. Scheideman of Augusta who passed away in 2022.

Susie loved the Lord and sang in every choir of every church she attended. She loved vegetable gardening and all flowers as she had quite a green thumb that was admired by many. She was considered to be one of the best cooks around and cooked for a profession at the Triangle Restaurant and Beech Aircraft. She also loved to travel and was able to return to Germany many times to visit family there. She created many fine doilies and tablecloths. And in her later years was in the running to be the best customer of the Douglass Public Library, often reading over three books a week.

Susie was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Charles (Bill) Rhodes; second husband Donald Scheideman; sisters, Franzika Schiff, and Maria Brandl; brother Otto Schoen; and precious great grandson, Conner Cleary.

Funeral service will be held on Monday, November 18, at 10 a.m. at the First Christian Church of Douglass Kansas (303 E. 4th St. Douglass KS 67039).
