Obituary

Teresa Lynn (Plummer) Overton, 73, passed away on Friday, April 18, 2025 at Wesley Medical Center, after a tragic accident.

Teresa was united in marriage to Don Overton on July 29, 1981 and they were married for 43 years until her passing.

Teresa was born on August 11, 1951 in Wichita, Kansas to Kenneth and Doris (Payton) Plummer.  She was a graduate of Augusta High School in 1969 and went on to graduate from a Wichita cosmetology school, where she became a talented hair stylist, working at the Village Beauty Salon in Augusta, Ks., making lifetime friends.  She then went back to school to become a registered nurse, working at both Riverside Hospital and Wesley Medical Center and then retired from the Asthma and Allergy Clinic, where she managed the south branch office.

Teresa had many interests and hobbies, but none so strong as her love for bluegrass music that she played with her family, all of her life.  She was an accomplished bluegrass musician and singer and she often said some of her most joyous times was being with her brother, singing beautiful harmonies.  The Plummer family was well known in the area for their musical accomplishments and they shared their time and talent with family and friends that would gather, just to listen to them sing and play.  Both her brother and father were award winning musicians and together, they created beautiful music and memories.  Teresa also spent time as a member of the Grass Cats, an all-female bluegrass band.

She also had a host of other interests with entertaining in her beautiful home, attending blue grass festivals and traveling with her husband. Their trips to Hawaii, were some of her favorite and most treasured times. Her love of prayer and scripture was deeply engrained in her heart and one of her most beautiful traits was knowing that each and everyone in her family was taken care of and knew she loved them.

But, Teresa's biggest accomplishment, was her shining heart.  Her physical beauty was surpassed only by her inner beauty.  She always had a glowing smile on her face, being the sweetest and kindest lady.  Always thinking of others, she touched many in her lifetime and she will never, ever be forgotten.

Teresa is survived by her husband; children, Evan Overton, Jared Lane Dykes and stepson Leslie (Anne) Overton;  Grandchildren, Elliana, Elon, Krystal and Erin; aunts, Joyce "Newatha" Brown and Pat Richey; uncle, Keith Payton; nephews, Efrem (Misty) Plummer and Levi (Jennifer) Nachbor; along with numerous cousins.

Teresa is preceded in death by her parents, (with her mother passing in February this year and her sister Linda (Plummer) Moore, passing in September of 2024).  Her brother Kenny Lee Plummer, and nephew, Derrick Plummer.
