Powers, Rodney C., 91, passed away, Wednesday, February 20, 2013.
Viewing will be Friday, February 22, from 1-5 p.m., and visitation with family greeting friends will be from 5-7 p.m. Funeral service Saturday, February 23, at 1:00, all at Dunsford Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
Rodney was born September 12, 1921, to Lee and Pearl (Shuey) Powers in Tipton Ford, Missouri. He graduated from Augusta High School in 1939, and served in the US Navy during WWII. He married Wanda Fern Mercer on October 17, 1945, in Augusta and they celebrated 55 years of a loving marriage. She preceded him in death in 2000. Rodney co-owned and operated Mercer and Powers Grocery in Augusta with his brother-in-law John Mercer until 1950. He then became an area foreman for Skelly Oil for 20 years and then a maintenance supervisor for Fluor Construction. He traveled the world enjoying Indonesia, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Puerto Rico and Alaska. Rodney was also an avid dirt track racing fan He married Marjorie Miller in 2003 and she preceded him in death on January 12, 2013.
Survivors include his son and his wife, Lynn and Vicki Powers of Wichita; three grandchildren, Brian (Mylisa) Powers, Stefanie Hicks and Jeree (Chris) Farber all of Wichita; 8 great-grandchildren; sisters Jewell Mahannah and Evelyn Willing both of Augusta.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife Wanda; second wife Marjorie; brother, Howard "Bub" Powers and a sister Leona "Wooe" Dill.
A memorial has been established with Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice in care of the funeral home.
