Morlene Mae
Wakefield
Sep 9, 1950 — Apr 28, 2024
Augusta
Morlene Mae Wakefield, 73, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, April 28, 2024.
Morlene was born on Saturday, September 9, 1950 in El Dorado, Kansas to Vic and Vivian (Roloson) Schwartz. She graduated from Augusta High School in 1968 and Butler County Community College in 1970. She was united in marriage to Leonard Wakefield on Augusta 6, 1971, and they enjoyed 52 years of marriage until Morlene's passing. They spent their time traveling to many of their children and grandchildren's events and taking the occasional vacation of their own. They loved to spend time with family at their cabin on Grand Lake in Oklahoma and date nights were often spent at their favorite BBQ restaurant for prime rib and then back home to watch KU or WSU on television. Morlene worked as a secretary for the Lowell Peterson State Farm Insurance Agency and as a bookkeeper for both the Joe Shupe and Mike Huddleston accounting firms in Augusta for many years. She lived for her children and grandchildren and was always available to talk to for advice and words of encouragement. Everyone could always count on a birthday or anniversary wish from "Nana" as well. She was an avid reader and soap opera junkie and also enjoyed sewing, crafting, bird watching, and spending time on the water at Grand Lake.
Morlene is survived by her husband, Leonard; son, Bart (Michelle) Wakefield of Wichita; daughters, Erica (Lee) Sims off Ketcham, OK and Tara (Jeremy Dieter) Robertson of Clearwater; grandchildren, Chase and Ella Wakefield, Keeton and Hallie Sims, Alyssa Robertson, Kristina (Jordan) Pote, and Kaleigh (Chase) Cook; great-grandchildren, Tenley and Beckett Pote; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Morlene is preceded in death by her parents and her brother John and his wife, Carolyn Schwartz.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 3rd from 1:30 -2:30 p.m. with funeral service starting immediately after, at Dunsford Funeral Home of Augusta.
The family wishes Memorial Contributions be made out to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, left in care of the Dunsford Funeral Home.
