Michael Donald Smith, 68, passed away on Sunday, April 9, 2023.

Michael was born on June 21, 1954, in Tacoma, Washington to Donald Daniel and Ginette Amelie (Patrick) Smith. Mike was born and raised in Washington, where he graduated from Puyallup High School in 1972.  He moved to Kansas in the 1980's where he began his career in retail management.  Mike worked as a manager for many different stores, and he enjoyed managing people.  He was often recognized by previous employees and peers who always spoke highly of him.  He enjoyed meeting new people and always connected with them effortlessly.  Mike never met a stranger.

Mike enjoyed playing golf, long conversations about politics, and reading.  He loved watching sports, especially Washington Husky football.  He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren, and he loved music.  He attended many concerts throughout his life.  He was also very passionate about his faith and would share his love for the Lord with everyone he met and would often pray for his friends and those he just met.  He also spent many years leading small groups through his church, and he gave many eulogies and baptized several people over the years.

Michael is survived by his daughter, Megan (Nic) Mans; grandchildren, Savannah, Hannah, and Addison Mans; step-parents, Joe Escamillo and Patricia Smith; brother, Donald (Cindy) Smith; sisters, Joanne (John) Doss, Cathy (Tracy) Schatz; Lisa (Bill) Squier; nephews, Jared Gese, Ryan McDonald, Phillip Squier, Daniel Squier, Brad Burlingame; nieces, Gina Ochart, Betsy Bamford; ex-wife Robbin Smith, many dear great-nephews and nieces, and cousins.  The oldest of five children, Mike took great pride in being their older brother and being there whenever they needed him.

Michael is preceded in death by his parents.

The family would like to thank Rivercross Hospice for their exceptional care of Mike throughout the last five months of his life, as well as Kiefer Senior Care. They allowed him to enjoy the best quality of life possible while remaining at home.

Honoring Mike's wishes, there will be no services at this time.  A Celebration of Life honoring Michael will be held in Washington to allow his extended family the opportunity to celebrate and remember him.
