Obituary

On Thursday, August 10th, 2023 Michael Dor Buskirk (75) from Augusta, Kansas entered into his heavenly home. He passed peacefully with his wife Kerry and his children by his side.

Mike was born on July 30th, 1948 to Harry and Pauline (Foster) Buskirk who preceded him in death. Mike is survived by his wife of 52 years Kerry Buskirk, his son Jake Buskirk and his wife Abbie and son Edison in New Zealand, his daughter Jenna Dunn and her husband Daric in Augusta, his brother Steve Buskirk and his family, his sister Lisa Thompson and her family, and his best furry friend and dog son Glenn.

Mike graduated from Augusta High School in 1966, where he was a football captain and sang with the madrigal choir. He was an Eagle Scout, boy Scout leader, and very involved with his church family and served as a Deacon for many years. He graduated from Wichita State with a degree in painting and was an artist for much of his life. He filled his and Kerry's home with his beautiful abstract paintings. He was also a skilled journeyman carpenter and worked as a construction Supervisor for Donlinger Construction until at 46 he was able to retire early to be with his children and support his wife Kerry as she became a National Sales Director with Mary Kay. He and Kerry married in 1971 and lived in many places including Tucson, Phoenix, Elko, Boise, and Boulder as he pursued his Master's degree before returning to their hometown of Augusta in 1977. In 1988 Mike designed and built their dream home in the Hillcreek country subdivision across from Santa Fe Lake where they brought their children home from the hospital and together they spent 34 years raising their family and making many memories there.

Mike will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him, especially his family. Mike was a person you couldn't help but love. His sweet servant's heart and soft but goofy demeanor made him the most genuine, wonderful person. Mike was a simple man who never asked or wanted for much. He was content to sit on his back porch every morning with the love of his life and his dog doing their morning devotions. He was a very talented and skilled man who lacked nothing. He had the fullest life and made so many memories traveling to over 30 countries with his wife thanks to Mary Kay. Whether standing on the Great Wall of China or in his own backyard, Mike was content in all things. He was the best father in the world and showed his children the most precious love and support. Mike was such a faithful man who trusted God above all things. His family is comforted to know that he is walking with Jesus and that they will all be reunited one day.

The memorial service to celebrate this beloved man will be held on Saturday, September 9th, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Christ Church at 14242 E 21st St N, Wichita, KS 67226. The family asks that everyone wear fall / earthy colors if possible as they represented Mike and were the colors he chose to paint with so often.
