Melvin Johnson, 87, a much loved dad and husband passed away on Saturday, January 2, 2016. Melvin was born August 3, 1928 in Gridley, Kansas to Russell and Carrie (Povenmire) Johnson. Melvin married Cynthia Ann Wheeler and after her passing later married Teresa Newell. Melvin worked as a farmer and shoe repairmen for most of his life. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and football. He loved his family.

Melvin is survived by his children, Kevin Johnson of Burlington, Ks, Michelle Roberts of Hutchinson, Ks, Marsha Povenmire of Wichita, Ks, Matthew and wife Leah Johnson of Wichita, Ks, Bill Newell of Overland Park, Ks, Craig and wife Jonnah Newell of Wichita, Ks, Nancy Newell of Oahu, Hawaii; sister Mary Margaret Smith of Rose Hill, Ks; 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Melvin is preceded in death by his parents, wives Cynthia Ann and Teresa.

Family will be conducting memorial services on Saturday, January 9th at 2:00 p.m., First Baptist Church located at 1206 N. Rose Hill Rd, Rose Hill, KS 67133.
