Melba Louise Dowdy, 65, of Augusta, Kansas, passed away February 20th, 2016. Melba was survived by her husband Doug Dowdy of 46 years, daughter Kimberly Brown, and grandson Corey Brown. A celebration of her life will be announced at a later date.

Melba Louise (Webb) Dowdy was born in Clayton, Oklahoma, August 9th, 1950 to Marvin Lee Webb and Lorene Louise (Whisenhunt) Webb. Melba graduated from Central High School in 1969. Melba married Doug Dowdy January 2, 1970 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. During the next 4 years they moved to Miami, Oklahoma, Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Stillwater, Oklahoma where Melba helped Doug pursue his college education and they started their future as partners in life. October 20, 1971, Melba gave birth to our daughter Kimberly Florene Dowdy. August 2, 2001 Kimberly gave birth to our grandson, Corey Brown.

Melba worked at Wicks Lumber Company, Gibsons Retail Chain, in Tulsa Oklahoma. After moving to Augusta, Kansas she worked for Western Sizzlin Steak House, and A Brown Retail Liquor Store. She also took care of all domestic and financial responsibilities that are required to run a household.

Melba was always in good humor and quick to come up with insightful remarks, whether they were solicited or not. Her advice and wise council was always sound and true whether it dealt with medicine, etiquette, social graces, or conduct. You could always come to Melba with a problem and she always knew just what to say or do. Melba was a very accomplished cook and homemaker. As a pastime, Melba dabbled in art and she loved to read. Melba was a loving, giving, and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. As my partner through life, she truly made life a joy, each and every day.
