Obituary

Margerita Ann Lager, affectionately known as Maggie or Geta, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at the age of 86. She suffered a massive stroke while doing something she enjoyed—playing at a casino.

Margerita was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on October 31, 1939, to Gilbert Ray Copeland and Sara Ann Copeland. She was the oldest of three sisters. She attended Valley Center High School, where she was an outstanding student, a cheerleader, and made many lifelong friendships.

At the age of 17, Margerita married Dwayne Reynolds, the father of her children. She became a mother for the first time at 18 with the birth of her son, Ronn. Soon after, sons Bret and Mark followed, and five years later, she welcomed her daughter, Jami. Margerita devoted much of her life to her family and was a loving, caring, and devoted Christian mother, who loved the Lord, and brought her children up in the church. She and Dwayne were married for 28 years before going their separate ways.

Following her divorce, Margerita began working at Boeing. She was a strong and independent woman who worked hard and built a life for herself and her family. On July 9, 1993, she married Michael Lager, a longtime family friend and her beloved husband of 33 years. Together, they built a life on their 34 acres of land outside Augusta, Kansas.

Margerita loved country living and found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved fishing, spending time with her family, and making a home filled with love. She was a wonderful cook and took great pleasure in cooking, baking, and canning. She also loved playing games and watching the Game Show Network. Above all, Margerita treasured her family and the time she spent with the people she loved.

Margerita will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her memory will live on through the many lives she touched and through the family she loved so dearly.

Margerita was preceded in death by her parents, Gilbert and Sara Copeland; her sisters, Sherry Brown and Linda (Linn) Copeland; daughters-in-law, Debra Reynolds and Carol Reynolds; and her great-grandson, Brooks Dean Reynolds.

She is survived by her husband, Michael Lager; her sons, Ronn Reynolds, Bret Reynolds, and Mark Reynolds; her daughter and son-in-law, Jami and Scott Weston; her stepson, Kurt Lager and his wife, Patty; her stepdaughter, Amber Lager; 13 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

A celebration of Margerita’s life will be held at Dunsford Funeral Home, 201 E. 5th Avenue, Augusta, KS 67010, on Friday, August 14, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.
