Obituary

Helmer, Lillian Matilda, 98, passed away Friday, August 27 at Newman Memorial Hospital, in Emporia.

She was born November 7, 1911 to Carl (Charles) and Freida Mahlandt and she lived most of her life in Butler County. After earning a teaching certificate from Kansas State Teachers College, she taught in rural schools. On April 26, 1936 she married Dan Helmer. He preceded her in death. In addition to being a homemaker and working on the family farm, she was a grain elevator bookkeeper.

She is survived by three children; Daniel Helmer of Augusta; Sharon (Harry) Stephens of Emporia; and Shirley Helmer of Kansas City. As well as 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. She was a long-time member of Christ Lutheran Church of Augusta.

Visitation will be Tuesday evening, August 31, 7-8 p.m. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, 11:00 a.m. in Elmwood Cemetery in Augusta.

In lieu of flowers memorials are established with Christ Lutheran Church of Augusta; Messiah Lutheran Church of Emporia and the Emporia Public Library in care of the funeral home.
