Wichita - Kathryn "Kathey" Jane Gibbs, 71, Wichita, KS, began dancing in heaven on Wednesday, March 28, 2018.

Kathey was born December 16, 1946, in Wewoka, OK, to Thomas and Billie (Stallings) Orwig.  She made many long-lasting friends at her alma maters, Abilene High School (1964) and Emporia State University (1968).  Kathey was a beloved teacher at Augusta High School for over forty years.  She taught English, Journalism and Creative Writing, and served as drill team, yearbook and newspaper sponsor during various stages of her career before retiring in 2011.  Kathey's greatest loves were mentoring her many students, reading, her dogs, and most of all, her family.  Her daughter Mindi, and grandson Carter, were her pride and joy.

Kathey is survived by her husband Rick Dennett of the home; daughter Mindi Chance of Wichita; step-son Seth (Caryn) Dennett of Wichita; sister Beth Schroder of Martinez, GA; brother Peter Orwig of Overland Park, KS; grandsons Carter Chance and Dane Dennett; and many nieces and nephews.

Kathey was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Ronald Gibbs, and son-in-law Michael Chance.

A celebration of Kathey's life will be held Monday, April 2, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, 1550 N. Chapel Hill Drive, Wichita, KS 67206.

The family wishes Memorial Contributions be made out to either KS Humane Society or American Cancer Society, left in care of the Dunsford Funeral Home.
