Katherine May Atkins of Haysville, 84, passed away on Saturday, June 1, 2024.

Katherine May Atkins was born on September 27, 1939 to Ruth Dolly Kibler and William Phillip Thornton. Her parents and two brothers have all preceded her in death. Kathy had 5 children; Patricia, Isaac (deceased), Wanda, Jerry, and Carol; and 14 grandkids. For much of her life she was a stay-at-home mother, however, she obtained her high school diploma when she was 43 years old. She was a licensed cosmetologist and owned her own business, as well as an over the road truck driver. After her kids were grown, she babysat her grandkids then went to work for Augusta school system and the YMCA as a bus driver. Kathy was small but mighty. She was onery and mouthy and would not and did not take any flack. Her former brother-in-law once said she had a good heart but zero comedic timing.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 7th from 5-7 p.m. Funeral Services will be Saturday, June 8th at 10 a.m. Both at Dunsford Funeral Home of Augusta.

Burial will follow at the Highland Cemetery in Winfield, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers the family wishes Memorial Contributions be made out to The Single Action Shooting Society or to the Free State Rangers, left in care of the Dunsford Funeral Home.
