Joyce Newatha Brown, passed away peacefully, Sunday July 19, 2026 in Augusta, Ks. Joyce was born on June 4, 1939 in Augusta, Ks. to Melvin and Betty (Buckett) Payton.

Joyce was united in marriage to James Tharp in 1958, until his passing in 1969.  She later married Jimmie Paul Brown in 1978 until his passing in 2023.

Joyce worked early years as a secretary at Boeing then a hairdresser at Village Beauty Salon in Augusta.  She then held a 30 year career as a real estate agent for Sharp Realty as well as Korte Realty.

Joyce loved and enjoyed family being together, decorating, cooking, traveling in the U.S. and abroad, and especially music.  Her nickname from many was, "Patsy" with her amazing ability in sounding like Patsy Cline in concerts, contests and CD's.  She passed up an opportunity to go to Nashville for singing promotions, as she didn't want her daughter to be left alone, being her only parent.

Joyce is survived by her daughter, Kathy Thompson and her husband, Donald; grandson Trenton Thompson; niece and nephew Paige Payton and Allen Payton. Joyce is preceded in death by her parents, husbands Jim and Paul; sister Doris Plummer; brothers Dorvin "Sonny" Davis and Keith Payton; and her nieces Linda Plummer Moore, Teresa Plummer Overton, and nephew Kenny Plummer.

Visitation will be July 23rd from 6-8 p.m.

Funeral services will be July 24th at 1:00 p.m. both at the Dunsford Funeral Home of Augusta.
