Obituary

Jo Helen Ohl, 93, passed away on Friday, January 19, 2024.

Jo was born Wednesday, February 19, 1930 in Wakita, Oklahoma to Morrison "Dale" and Helen Marie (Bowles) Garrett. She was an older sister to L. D. Garrett.

Jo was united in marriage to James "Jim" Ohl on July 20th, 1949, in Wakita, Oklahoma. They were married for 64 years until Jim's passing in 2013.

Jo worked as a secretary and substitute teacher for many years of her life. She graduated from Wichita State University in 1973 with a Bachelor of Arts in Education, Majoring in Elementary Education.

Jo had a deep love for children, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In her later years, she grew very fond of spending time at the daycare at First Christian Church. During that time, she became very well known, by all, as G.G. She loved to help and support young minds and adored spending time at the daycare with her great-granddaughters, Rozlynn and Rowan. While Rozlynn and Rowan were in the infant room, it went without saying that GG would be right there, taking care of her girls. When she was not at the daycare, you could find GG watering and tending to her garden or frequenting the many summer garage sales of Augusta. Thankfully the house had a well, as she might have snoozed a time or two with the hose running, while making the rounds in her back yard. Jo also enjoyed reading and going to the library. She enjoyed the outdoors and supported her husband Jim, with lake trips and fishing outings. Her idea of fishing though, was to be on the water, sun visor on and a good book to read while Grandpa Jim fished!

Jo is survived by her son, Mark (Jamie) Ohl; grandchildren, Derek (Roxann) Ohl and Sheldon (Amy) Ohl; great-grandchildren, Tyson, Rozlynn, Rowan, Rhys, and Bailey; sister-in-law, Jacqueline Garrett.

Jo is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jim; son, Daniel "Danny" Ohl; brother, LD Garrett; and daughter-in-law, Janet Ohl.

Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 27th , 2024, at First Christian Church, 1600 State St Augusta, KS 67010.
