John Wesley "Wes" Hammond, 86, passed away on Tuesday, December 1, 2020 with his loving wife at his side.

Wes was born on Saturday, August 18, 1934 in Wichita, Kansas to Virgil and Ernestine (Bourget) Hammond.  He graduated from Augusta High School in 1952 and enlisted in the Air Force, serving until 1957.  While on leave in 1957, Wes and Janice met on a train headed for Montana.  On February 14 ^th , 1959 in St. Paul, Minnesota, they married and moved to El Dorado, KS.  Wes was employed on the Corbin Dairy Farm until they moved to Augusta, where they would make their forever home.  Wes was employed by the City of Augusta at the power plant, later changing careers to management at Fleming Foods in Wichita.  Wes and Janice had 3 daughters, Annette, Janine, and Lori.

Wes is survived by his wife, Janice Hammond of 61 years; daughters Janine (James) Roth of Tonkawa, OK and Lori (Rick) Snider of Winfield; his brothers Virgil Richard "Dick" (Sarah) Hammond of Augusta and William Lee "Bill" (Joyce) Hammond of Paris, MO; grandchildren Ryan (Amy) Kilby of Derby, Taylor Snider and Dylan Snider both of Wichita, Jessica (Zac) Kirby of Ponca City, OK, Jillian (JD) McMillen of Tonkawa, OK and Celia Roth of Grapevine, TX; 5 great-grandchildren, Lincoln, Lane, Abel Wes and Henry McMillen of Tonkawa, OK and Chloe Stuhlsatz of Derby; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Wes is preceded in death by his mother and father, daughter Annette Kim Hammond and beloved family members Katherine Kusie, Dennis Thompson and Paulette Kusie.

Visitation will be on Friday, December 4 from 5:00-7:00 pm. at Dunsford Funeral Chapel in Augusta.  The family requests those in attendance to please wear a mask.  Private family services will take place at a later date.

The family wishes Memorial Contributions be made out to the Central Baptist Church in Augusta or PXE International, (PXE is the rare eye disease that caused Wes's blindness) left in care of the Dunsford Funeral Home.
