John F. O'Neal, 89, of Augusta, passed away Sunday, May 23, 2010 at Lakepoint of Augusta after a short illness. John was born to John B. and Alice (Marten) O'Neal on July 11, 1920 in Augusta.

On May 5, 1961, John married Joyce R. Ozbun in Augusta.

John served during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He worked at Boeing until retirement. John loved to hunt and fish and was seen having daily walks until this last year. John was a member of the First Christian Church of Augusta, the Elks/Moose Lodge of Wichita and the Augusta Lions Club.

John was preceded in death by his parents and a son Shawn David O'Neal.

He is survived by his wife Joyce of Lakepoint in Augusta; daughter Kimberly (Pat) Sponsel of Wichita; grandchildren Mandy Bell and C. Brandon Bell, Wichita; Holly Vannoster, Wichita; Britton O'Neal, Wichita; Robbie Sponsel, and Kelsi Sponsel, Wichita and one great grandchild Kailynn Bell.

There will be a viewing on Thursday, May 27, from 1-6 p.m. and a graveside on Friday, May 28, at 11:00 a.m. in Elmwood Cemetery, Augusta, using the 12th Street entrance.
