Obituary

Augusta – Joe Edmond Keener, 81, passed away on Saturday, February 29, 2020.

Joe was born on Friday, February 3, 1939 in Blossom, Texas to Clayton and Dora (Murders) Keener. Joe graduated high school in Wardell, Missouri.  He married Betty Meade on November 6, 1964 in Cottonwood Falls.  Betty preceded him in death on December 4, 2007.  Joe had worked as a diesel mechanic, a Machinist for Cessna and as a farmer.  He was an outdoorsman.  Joe loved to go hunting and fishing and was even slalom water skiing into his 60s.  He had a great respect for the land and was very patriotic, flying a flag every day on a custom made flag pole he made himself.  Family was always a priority for Joe and he kept in touch with so many throughout the years.  His granddaughters were the light of his life, they were his "Sweetheart" and "Sugar Bear". Joe believed in working hard and passed that on to his children.

Joe is survived by his fiancé Evelyn Conley of Wichita; daughter Debbie (Bill) Webster of Leon; brothers Roger (Mary Ann) Keener and Kenneth (Carrie) Keener all of New Albany, MS; grandchildren Destiney (Hector) DeAnda of Wichita and Heaven (Marc) Cain III of Leon; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Ted and Jeannie White of Cottonwood Falls; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Joe is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Betty, son Wayne, his brother Edgar, sister-in-law Betty and niece Denise, and his brother Donnie.

Visitation will be on Thursday, March 5 th from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Funeral Service will be on Friday, March 6 th at 10 a.m. both at Dunsford Funeral Chapel in Augusta. Burial will follow at Prairie Grove Cemetery in Cottonwood Falls.

In Lieu of flowers, the family wishes Memorial Contributions be made out to B.A.S.E. Scholarship (Bluestem Association for Students Education), left in care of the Dunsford Funeral Home.
