Jean (Wright) Wescoat, 86, passed away October 3, 2013, in Augusta, Kansas.
Graveside will be Monday, October 7, at 11:30 a.m. with viewing at 11:00 prior to the service in the Riverton Cemetery.
Jean Wright, was born on May 2, 1927, in Riverton, Nebraska to Vernon and Beatrice (Shetler) Wright. She grew up in Riverton, was baptized in the Congregational Church when she was four and dedicated in the Assembly of God Church at 8 years of age. She attended the Riverton Public School graduating with the class of 1944. While in high school she worked for Grace Richardson in her creamery, then attended Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, later moving to Hastings, Nebraska and working for Swift and Company. She was united in marriage to Ray L. Wescoat on August 26, 1949, in Mankato, Kansas. To this union there was one son, Jerry. In 1955 they moved to Riverdale, Nebraska and then to Kearney, Nebraska in 1970. After the death of her husband in 2006, she moved to Augusta, Kansas to be close to family.
She missed and never forgot her neighbors and her and Ray's best friends, Lloyd and Helen; also the college kids at the University of Nebraska at Kearney. She loved University of Nebraska at Kearney basketball and football, also Nebraska football, never missing a game on radio or TV.
She was blessed with five grandchildren who blessed her with the greatest gift of all eleven great grandchildren. Two of the eleven great grandchildren added to the family two darling great-great granddaughters. Oh, what a blessing.
She is survived by her son, Jerry and his wife Mona; grandchildren Jason and his wife Margret, Stacey and her husband Charles, Jeanne, Terri and her husband Bob and Tammie. Eleven great grandchildren, two great-great granddaughters, four nieces and 7 nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Vernon and Beatrice Wright; her husband Ray, her sisters, Margy Scharff and Lota Smith.
She will return to her childhood home in Riverton, Nebraska with Interment in the Riverton Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the athletic department at the University of Nebraska at Kearney in care of the funeral home.
