Rev. Henry W. Cox, 91, passed from this life to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 in Wichita, Kansas.

Henry was born on May 24, 1925, in Wichita, Kansas, to Henry W. Cox Sr. and Agnes (Powers) Cox. He attended the Indianola Grade School in Butler County, Kansas. Henry graduated from Augusta High School in Augusta, Kansas in 1942. He obtained his bachelor's degree at Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas. Henry then attended Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City.

On December 30, 1941, he married Lois Olsen and they raised five children: LeRoy, Annetta, John Henry, David, and Robert. Rev. Cox served as a Southern Baptist pastor from 1947 until his retirement in 1990. Often he was bi-vocational as a farmer, cowboy, artist, substitute teacher, Child Protective Officer for the State of Arizona, and other jobs. He enjoyed the outdoors, raising animals, fishing, hunting and more so he enjoyed ministering to people and serving the Lord. He pastored at: Splitlog Baptist in Splitlog, MO; Enterprise Baptist in Enterprise, OK; First Baptist in Boynton, OK; First Baptist in Douglass, KS; Metropolitan Southern Baptist in Kansas City, KS; Rancho Grande Southern Baptist in Casa Grande, AZ; First Baptist in Ash Fork, AZ; and IXL Southern Baptist in Arkansas City, KS. He had served a number of times as Associational Clerk for the South Central Association of Southern Baptists. He also served on the committee (with Kansas/Nebraska Convention of Southern Baptists) which secured the property for the Webster Conference Center. During his retirement, he resided near Augusta, Kansas.

Henry is survived by his wife of 74 years, Lois Cox of Augusta, KS; and 5 children, LeRoy (Lometa) Cox of Northfield, IL, Annetta Cox of Gurnee, IL, John Henry (Cynthia) Cox of New York City, NY, David (Carol) Cox of Ash Fork, AZ, and Robert Cox of Augusta, KS; 4 grandchildren, Charina, Clinten (Renee), Kevin (Samantha), and Kaitlyn; 7 great-grandchildren, Isabel, Hillary, Schuyler, Emmalee, Madilyn, Wyatt, and Benjamin; many family members, friends, and church family. Henry was preceded in death by his parents, Henry W. and Agnes Cox; his brother and sister-in-law Martin and Pat Cox, his sister Mary June Tresner; and his grandson Brian David Cox.

Family visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, July 22 at the Dunsford Funeral Home in Augusta. Funeral services will be Saturday, July 23, at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Douglass, KS and will be officiated by Rev. David Cox and Rev. Voyt Lynn. Interment will be at the Douglass Cemetery following the service.
