Andover - Effie June Wakefield, 86, passed away on Tuesday, July 26, 2016.

June was born on June 26, 1930, to Elmer Diller and Viola Mae (Danby) Griffin in Cassoday, Kansas. After graduating from Cassoday High School, June moved to El Dorado and worked as a telephone operator. She met Eldon Edgar Wakefield of Douglass, KS and they married on October 15, 1949, in El Dorado, KS. They had three sons. For several years, Eldon's work in the oil supply business took the family to locations in Kansas, Oklahoma and Nebraska. In 1970, the family settled in Douglass, KS. In addition to the telephone company, June also worked in retail and catering. For several years, June and Eldon owned and operated Wakefield Grocery, a mom and pop convenience store in Douglass. Her longest employment was with Douglas Public School, where she worked until her retirement. June loved to read. She also enjoyed antique stores and garage sales. She always "wrapped" Christmas gifts purchased at garage sales in brown paper bags so recipients were forewarned of the item's provenance. She also enjoyed family reunions and keeping up with her extended family.

June is survived by her sons, Mark Alan and his wife Renee of Jenks, OK, William Dean "Bill" of Bonham, TX, Thomas Jeffrey "Jeff" and his wife Lori of Austin, TX; sisters Virginia "Ginny" Calloway of McAllen, TX, Elsie Irene Brady of Salt Lake City, UT; and her grandchildren, Jack and Kyle.

June was preceded in death by her husband in 1985, her parents, five brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be Monday, August 1st, at 10:00 a.m. at Dunsford Funeral Home in Augusta. Interment will be at Douglass Cemetery, in Douglass, KS.
