Edwin Eldon Gray Sr., 82 of Augusta, Kansas, went to his heavenly home on Friday, July 4, 2014 at the Lake Point Nursing Home in Augusta, Kansas. He was a resident there for almost 14 months. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, July 11 at the First Baptist Church in Augusta. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00P.M. at the Dunsford Funeral Home of Augusta.
Edwin Eldon Gray was born on January 19, 1932 the son of William Leroy and Carrie Bess Ades Gray in Rosalia, KS. He moved with his family to the Augusta area when he was in the third grade. Ed graduated from the Augusta High School in 1950. He was united in marriage with Joyce Benjamin on April 25, 1953. The couple worked side-by-side on the family farm, raising crops, cattle and kids. They also operated a service station, Junction Service, for five years. Ed began farming at age 16, with help from his parents, and farmed and raised cattle for almost 40 years.
Ed was called to the ministry in 1972 and he was Pastor of Zion Community Bible Church for 35 years. He also worked for the Butler County Highway Department for 14 years, retiring in 1999. He was a hard worker at whatever the job. He worked many jobs through the years to provide for his family.
A stroke in 2010 affected Ed's speech and comprehension, but his memory was very good. He loved his Lord, his wife, his family, his friends, and leaves a Godly legacy for his family.
Edwin is survived by his wife of 61 years, Joyce of the home, sons, Edwin Gray II and wife Roberta of Shell Knob, MO, Jerry Gray and wife DeVelle of Lawrence, KS, Darrel Gray of Augusta, KS and Kevin Gray and wife Bobbi of Towanda, KS, and daughter Diane MacNicol of Augusta, KS, brothers, Leroy Gray of Augusta, KS and Harley Gray and wife Myrna of Augusta, KS, sister Rosa Elliot of El Dorado, KS, and sister-in-law, Bonnie Gray of El Dorado, KS. 16 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death are his parents, brother Delbert Gray, grandson Justin Gray and great-grandson Bryton Gray.
