Drusilla "Dude" (Carter) Purdin, 88, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, passed away at her home, December 24, 2010.
Dude was born in Jenks, Oklahoma, June 13, 1922, to Cecil and Sadie Carter. She was the middle child of three, having an older sister Beryl Richardson, and a younger brother, Dan Carter. Dude grew up on Indianapolis Street in Tulsa, graduated from Tulsa Central High School, and the University of Tulsa where she earned a degree in accounting. While at TU she was a cheerleader, a member of Chi Omega Sorority, and was also a football homecoming queen as well as a band queen. She married Calvin Purdin of Augusta, Kansas in 1946 and later moved to Augusta, Kansas where she and Calvin owned and managed Purdin's Cleaners, a dry cleaning business. While in Augusta she was active in various social groups as well as President of the Soroptimist Club. Dude had three children, Cal, Diane (deceased) and Elizabeth Ann. After Calvin passed away in 1982, she relocated to Tulsa, OK where she later married a high school and college friend, Ovid Birmingham, who also preceded her in death. Dude's hobbies included sewing and playing with her pet Chihuahua's.
She is survived by her son Cal, her daughter Elizabeth Ann, two grandchildren, Todd and Molly, and her devoted Chihuahua's.
Visitation will be held Thursday, January 6, from 12:30-1:30 with the funeral services following at 1:30 p.m. both at Dunsford-Zeiner Funeral Home in Augusta, Kansas. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery in Augusta.
A memorial has been established with the Humane Society in care of the funeral home.
