Donna June
Carnes
Jul 11, 1939 — Dec 6, 2024
Augusta
Donna June Carnes, 85, passed away peacefully at her home in Augusta, Kansas on Friday, December 6, 2024. She was born to Helen and Russell Cales on July 11, 1939, on a farm near Caney, Kansas where she enjoyed her early years with her two older brothers, Kenneth and Melvin, and her younger sister, Lois.
In 1958, Donna started attending Coffeyville Community College where she earned an associate's degree in business and met her husband, Alan Campbell Carnes. After dating briefly, she and Alan were married on October 11, 1958. They were married 57 years before Alan's passing in 2015.
Donna was a mother and homemaker who enjoyed nothing more than having a house full of children and grandchildren – especially around the holidays. She had a passion for sewing and quilting, blessing family and friends alike with countless baby blankets and quilts. Being involved in church life was always a priority. Wherever Donna and Alan lived they were actively involved in their local church. Their involvement leaves behind many friends wherever they served.
Donna was preceded in death by her husband, Alan Carnes; her parents, Russell and Helen (Fields) Cales; her brother, Melvin Cales; and her sister, Lois (Cales) Salisbury.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, DeLanah and David Huyett of Wichita, Kansas; her daughter and son-in-law Mishele and Randy McKain of Bemidji, Minnesota; her son and daughter-in-law, David and Lyn Carnes of Overland Park, Kansas; her son and daughter-in-law Michael and Julie Carnes of Overland Park, Kansas; her brother Kenneth Cales of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; fourteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
The family will hold a private graveside service of remembrance at Robbins Cemetery in Coffeyville, Kansas at a later date.
