Obituary

Dewane Chadd Carter, 88, passed away peacefully at home with his daughter by his side on Friday, May 1, 2015.

Dewane was born January 11, 1927 to Fred and Beulah (Chadd) Carter in Hillsdale, Oklahoma. One of eight children, Dewane grew up in Goltry, Oklahoma where he farmed, drove teams of horses, and developed his strong work ethic. Dewane served his country in the U.S. Army and was a World War II veteran. He married the love of his life, Eula Geneva Woolery, on February 24, 1962 in Newton, Kansas. He worked for Beechcraft as a painter for 40 years. Dewane loved spending time with family—from Carter reunions and visits in Goltry, Oklahoma to playing ball with his great-grandkids at the house. He greatly enjoyed baseball (Go Royals!), horses, puzzles and gardening. He took pride in his yard and home, in which he lived for 43 years, surrounded by a community of close neighbors and friends.

Dewane was preceded in death by his parents; wife Eula; son Randy; stepson Dennis Fletcher; brothers J.D. and Merle; and sisters Ellen White and Claudine McSparrin.

Dewane is survived by his daughter Charlotte Englund (husband Peter Poorman); stepdaughters Sue Craig (husband Bob) and Anna Fletcher(husband Dale Elliott); sisters Arlene Foltz, Anna Mae Shaw, and Freda Jo Brawley; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Monday, May 4 from 1-7 p.m., with family present from 5-7 p.m. Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 5 at 2 p.m.—both at Dunsford Funeral Home of Augusta. Interment to follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
