McKnight, Delmas L. 87, of Rose Hill, Kansas entered into rest on February 11, 2013, at Lakepoint Nursing Home in Wichita, Kansas.
Viewing will be Thursday, February 14, from 1-6 p.m. and visitation with family greeting friends will be held from 6-7 p.m. Funeral service will be Friday, February 15, at 11:00 a.m. all in Dunsford Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Dunlap Cemetery in Rose Hill.
He was born July 22, 1925, to Forest and Furl (Kinion) McKnight in Butler County, Kansas. He spent his childhood near where his great-grandparents homesteaded in a dugout in the year 1871. He attended country schools, learning much from hands-on experience while helping his father farm and run a dairy on his great-grandparents farm.
Delmas made his choice to serve God early in life, and was true to that his entire life. He kept faith in his living, and it kept him in death. He married Melva Mary Grupe on May 1, 1950, in Davenport, Iowa. They built a house three miles northeast of Rose Hill. He continued working with his father, farming his own land and starting a dairy. He ran the road grader for the township for many years. Their family was completed by their four children, Elaine Louise, Karla Mae, Daryl Lynn, and Loren Ray.
Delmas was a much loved father, a devoted husband, brother, friend and neighbor. He loved telling stories about the old days, and what was happening around him, and we all loved to listen.
He is survived by his four children, Elaine (Dave) Musgrove of Whitewood, South Dakota, Karla Coleman of Garden City, Kansas, Daryl (Wanda) McKnight of Matthews, North Carolina, and Loren (Elisa) McKnight of Wichita, Kansas, 11 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren; and aunt Lois McKnight of Wichita, Kansas.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 46 years; a son-in-law, Steve Coleman and his two sisters Xelma Schaplowsky, and Linda Wise.
Thank you to all who have meant so much to Delmas through the years and to those who have offered your love and support in these past few years.
