Obituary

Connie Louise Carey Arnold Self, 71, of Augusta, Kansas, devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed from this life on Friday, September 29, 2017, at her home.

Connie was born January 5, 1946, to Harry Eugene and Betty Ruth (Gwillim) Carey in Iola, Kansas.  Connie graduated from Augusta High School in 1964.  Connie married Albert Duane Arnold, who preceded her in death.  She later married JR Self, and together they enjoyed many wonderful years of marriage before his death in 2008.

Connie was a devoted homemaker and worked in the banking industry for many years.  She was actively involved in the community and assisted in the organization and management of the Augusta White Eagle Festival.  Connie later pursued her love for photography and started her own business, "Rustic Edge Photography", where she captured memories of every occasion.  Connie enjoyed traveling with her son, Ed, to rodeo schools around the country assisting him with photography.

Connie had two great loves in her life, her God and her family. She displayed a servant's heart and many lives were touched through the years by her involvement as a Sunday school teacher, youth leader, children's church leader, Mpact and home-school teacher.

Connie's heart held a special place for her family and friends.  She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister and aunt to her family and a special friend to many others.  You could count on her to always show love and speak encouragement into your life.  Connie was also an extraordinary seamstress and enjoyed quilting with her sisters.

We are deeply saddened to lose the Matriarch of our family.  You were an angel while on this earth and are now spreading your wings in heaven as you watch over your family.

Connie is survived by her father, Harry Eugene Carey of Chanute, KS; son, Ed Arnold of Augusta, KS; daughter, Linda Sue Corbin of Rose Hill, KS; and son, William Arnold of Augusta, KS; and six step-children.

Siblings Betty Jo (Harry) Wheat of Augusta, KS; Annamae Carey of Chanute, KS; Mike (Debbie) Carey of Thornton, CO; Jimmy (Theresa) Carey of Augusta, KS; and Sharon (Doug) Corder of Alva, OK.

Grandchildren Lee Arnold, Randi (Nick) Fouts, Elysia Arnold, Canyon Corbin, Hunter Corbin, McKartneigh Arnold; great grandchildren Brinley Fouts, McKenzie Arnold, Alice Arnold, Reagan Fouts; numerous step grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Connie is preceded in death by her mother, Betty Ruth (Gwillim) Carey; sister Karen Ruth Hufman; and brother David Carey.
