Chester Leroy
Hufman
Mar 16, 1943 — Mar 10, 2025
Augusta
Chester LeRoy Hufman, age 81, Augusta, Kansas, devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed from this life on Monday, March 10, 2025 at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kansas.
Chester was born on Tuesday, March 16, 1943, to Joseph Dewey Hufman and Emma Margaret Fox Hufman in Leon, Kansas. He was united in marriage to Karen Ruth Carey, on May 1, 1964, in Augusta, Kansas. She preceded him in death on July 26, 2017. Together, they enjoyed 53 wonderful years of marriage. Chester was also preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Dewey Hufman and Emma Margaret Fox Hufman; brother, Joseph Robert Hufman; brother, Harold Vernon Hufman; sister, Wilma Arlene Hufman; brother, Lester Dwight Hufman; and brother, Donald Eugene Hufman.
Chester worked as a plumber, pipefitter, and welder at Boeing for many years until his retirement. He was also a member of the Local Plumbers and Pipefitters Union. After retiring, he was involved in many of the family business ventures including running supplies for Drywall Consultants, cultivating massive gardens, doing deliveries and giving out samples of the family owned Mama Salsa, and helping set up and maintaining the four Curves Fitness centers they owned.
Chester loved the outdoors and spent many hours camping with the family. Canoe trips down the Current River in Missouri always produced plenty of laughs as Chester thought it was hilarious when the kids capsized their canoes. Chester was an avid hunter and fisherman and taught his children and grandchildren how to put a worm on a hook and how to filet a fish. The fish fries were an extra bonus. He taught Ruthann, Rocky and Roy how to dove hunt, starting them out on .410 shotguns. He always said, "If you shoot it, you clean it." Chester enjoyed rooting for Kansas Jayhawks basketball and watched as many games as he could.
Chester left a faithful spiritual legacy to his family and those around him. He spent countless hours reading his Bible and learning scripture. You would often see him with his Bible at his side. Chester was a faithful member of Grace Pointe Church and in his younger years was involved in Royal Rangers as a leader and in the youth ministries of the church.
We are deeply saddened to lose this great man of God and spiritual leader of our Family. You were a great example of Christian faith while on this earth and are now spreading your wings in heaven as you watch over your family.
Chester is survived by his daughter, Ruth Ann (Curtis) Dunning of Augusta, Kansas; son, Rocky Hufman of Augusta, Kansas; and son, Roy (Kari) Hufman of Towanda, Kansas.
