Obituary

Cheryl Diane Catlin, 78, passed away peacefully after a brief illness while in hospice care in Wichita on October 14, 2025.

She was born on January 13, 1947, in Hutchinson, Kansas, to Robert and Marjorie Lentz, and was the eldest of five siblings.

Cheryl attended Hutchinson schools, graduating in 1965. On July 2, 1968, she was united in marriage to Dewey Catlin, and the couple moved to Twenty-Nine Palms, California, where their daughter Melissa was born. They moved to Hutchinson in 1969, and resided there until 1973, when they moved to Goodland, Kansas, where Dewey began his career with the Kansas Highway Patrol. While in Goodland, their daughter Victoria Catlin Hoover and son Adam Catlin were born.

In 1981, they moved to Sedan, Kansas, when Dewey was transferred there with the Kansas Highway Patrol. Dewey retired from the Patrol in 1997. In 2001, they moved to Manhattan to Melissa's two sons play sports, and in 2008, they relocated to Augusta to be closer to Adam's children.

Cheryl enjoyed being around people. Some of her hobbies included sewing bridal gowns, crafting, counted cross-stitch, puzzles, and quilting with the ladies from church. She especially loved attending her grandchildren's activities.

She is survived by her daughter Melissa (Rod) Cook of Manhattan, KS; son Adam (Katherine) Catlin of Augusta, KS; grandsons Kyle (Rachel) Cook, Braden Cook, and Aiden Catlin; granddaughter Shaylee Catlin; and great-grandsons Logan and Liam Cook; and Sarah Catlin, mother of Shaylee and Aiden. Also surviving are her siblings: Dennis (Joyce) Lentz, Roger Lentz, Janis (Craig) Jackson, and Julie (Matthew) Kraft, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey in May 2011; daughter, Victoria Catlin in January 1997; father, Robert Lentz in 2006; and mother, Marjorie Lentz in 2013.
