Bonnie Arlene (Carner) Mayes Furgason, 88 passed away peacefully in Coldwater, KS hospital on 12 June 2023 with family by her side.

Bonnie was born 24 March 1935 the daughter of William Wesley and Hattie Bonnie (Cody) Carner Klein Augusta, KS Butler County. She married Bruce Mark Mayes on December 19, 1950 with whom she had four sons and one daughter. Bonnie later married Charles Furgason August 1970 in Wichita, KS and they had one daughter. After a year of living in Rosehill, then three years in Andover, KS Bonnie and Charles moved to Protection, KS. Bonnie moved back to Augusta, KS to care for her mother Hattie in 1995 where she resided until 2022 when she returned to Comanche County Coldwater, KS to Prairie Plaza Apartments.

Bonnie worked at K-Mart in Wichita, KS in the plant/nursery department and had quite the green thumb. In Protection she babysat several local kids in family home daycare until she took at job as custodian at USD 300, as well as Augusta and Andover grade schools. Bonnie enjoyed helping older folks in Protection with house cleaning, local errands, and also taking treats to and visiting with Protection Valley Manor residents. Bonnie was known for her exuberant and hearty laugh that often brought a blush to her kids but also brought joy to many. Bonnie had several dog companions including her beloved Baby that passed in 2022.

Bonnie enjoyed country music and dance. She traveled to Senior Citizen dances in Augusta, KS area both with her mother and with friends. Her, her sisters, and mother as well as her children and the cousins met many of summers at KFDI days at Joyland Park for picnics, country music performances and amusement park rides. She enjoyed reality shows about Alaska, animal rescues,Westerns, and Hallmark shows. Her move to Prairie Plaza brought her great joy as she made new friends in Comanche County and was able to visit with old friends in a warm and loving community.

Preceded in death by: Parents: William Wesley Carner and Hattie Bonnie (Cody) Carner [Yoakley] Klein; Sons Wesley Mayes and Larry Mayes. Siblings: William Carner, Barbara Nelson, Janice Lee. Nephew: Randy Nelson. Cousins: Acy Bill Cody; and Uncle: Lee Cody.

Bonnie is survived by children Jerry (Patricia) Mayes, Debra Mayes Page, Mark Mayes, Kristal (Michael) Vaughan.  Grand-Children: Jason (Karen) Mayes, Wesley Mayes, Shannon (Jeff) Kash, Cory Boor Mayes, Michael (Xenia) Mayes, Brittany (Jason) Shelley, Chelsi (Matt) Enz, Nicki Mayes, Cody Mayes.  Great-Grandkids: William Mayes, Jake Mayes, Joey Mayes, Jackson Kash, Madison Mayes, Hailey Mayes, Molly Mayes, Jordan Shelley, Hadley Enz, Holly Koehn, Cousins: Mary (Bruch)Chisman, Irvin Cody, and Audine McKaig.  Nieces and Nephews: Wes (Marge) Carner, Liz (Kevin) Wibright, Donna Carner, Joyce (Ron) Campbell, Billy Carner, Stephen Krueger; Darryl (Cheryl) Carner, Kevin (Susie) Lee, Shawn (Chris) Moxley; Avis Nelson, Joy Irving, Holly (Rusty) Parylak.

Visitation will be Saturday, June 17th from 12-1p.m. with services starting at 1:00 p.m. both at Dunsford Funeral Home of Augusta, Burial will follow at the Elmwood Cemetery.
