Andover - Alyce Miner passed away peacefully at the age of 95 on Saturday, February 22, 2020.
She was born on Monday, April 14, 1924 in Dorchester, Nebraska to Roy and Nellie (Thompson) Miller. Alyce graduated from Friend High school in 1941. Alyce married Galen Miner in Dorchester, Nebraska in April 1945 on Friday the 13
th
. She met and dated Galen in High School. Galen and Alyce were married for 59 years.
After high school, Alyce moved to Lincoln, Nebraska and worked at Kresge's Five and Dime, Montgomery Ward's Service Department then advanced to the Credit Department, and Pershing Auditorium in accounting. While raising young children she took night jobs with Arthur Murray Dance Studio and Russell Stover candies. In 1967, Galen took a new job in Wichita, KS with Service Business Forms, leaving Alyce to take care of the kids through graduation and sell the home. In 1968, Alyce moved Gaynelle and Tom to Wichita, KS, as Bruce was in the Air Force, to be with Galen. She worked at Cantrell Plumbing Supply as a bookkeeper and Farm Credit Bank advancing to Manager, before retiring in June 1986. Galen and Alyce moved to their lakeside retirement home at Grand Lake in Grove, Oklahoma. Galen passed away in March of 2004. In July 2006, Alyce moved to Andover, KS to be near Gaynelle and the grandchildren, living independently until February 22, 2020.
Alyce enjoyed going to musicals at Music Theater of Wichita and Crown Uptown Theater. She was a fan of big band music, a member of the Moose Club, and liked going to dances with Galen. She enjoyed fishing, boating, crafting, reading and gardening.
Surviving children Bruce and wife Gillian Miner of Austin, Texas, Galen Thomas Miner of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Gaynelle "Nell" and husband Ron Mayes of Andover; 6 grandchildren, Katy Miner and Holly Miner, Debbie Miner Oliver and Rachel Miner Specht, Michael Mayes and Michelle Mayes Hornecker; 9 great-grandchildren, Erik and Xara Miner, Naomi Escamilla, Jacob Oliver, Jordan and James Hornecker, Skyler, Liam and Bradley Mayes.
Alyce is preceded in death by her parents, and her husband.
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at 10 a.m. at the Andover United Methodist Church. Inurnment will take place at a later date, at the Anderson Cemetery in Nebraska.
The family wishes in lieu of flowers, that memorial donations be made to Phoenix Hospice or Envision of Wichita, left in care of the Dunsford Funeral Home.
